Long-term collaboration

Challenge

How can we go beyond raising awareness and providing information to encourage proper waste disposal? How can behavioural science be used to develop more effective sorting and littering strategies? Since 2020, Bruxelles-Propreté has been collaborating with Behaven on these issues.

Solution

Following an extensive regional study, Behaven developed a number of behavioural strategies, some of which are targeted at specific contexts such as tram and bus stops or cultural events. All of this work has resulted in practical solutions for the 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region and other stakeholders in public cleanliness.

Results

Beyond Bruxelles-Propreté, regional and local stakeholders have also expressed their satisfaction. They have been given scientifically sound solutions as well as suggestions on how to adapt them to their specific contexts. Furthermore, this process is assisting them in developing inter-municipal collaboration.
